I have created
this blog as a way to track my progress and thought process throughout my EPQ.
I was inspired by another one similar, there's a few online.
Today I had my
first lesson with my EPQ supervisor, as a class we discussed the benefits of
the project and the kind of things we should look into researching, as well as
how we can present it. They suggested linking it to the degree we are looking
at studying and well as ensuring it is a subject we are passionate about
learning about.
For a few years
I have been wanting to pursue physiotherapy, and would love to get some more
knowledge of it, whilst gaining an extra qualification. Prior to my session in
class I had considered the question '
Is physiotherapy more beneficial than prescribed medication?' . This was inspired by a BBC
documentary The Doctor Who
Gave Up Drugs where a
GP sets himself a mission to treat as many patients, without any drugs. He uses
alternative therapies like physiotherapy. I might still use this programme as
research.
Then I tried to mind-map some other questions that might be more specialized or specific, as the
last is relatively general. I thought 'Can
physiotherapy be used to treat children with learning disabilities or mental
illness and control their symptoms?'. I wanted to focus my
research on the behavior of children because pediatric physiotherapy could be
a sector I want to work in. As well as this, by selecting one age group, it
allows comparison. I can analyse research for e.g adolescence and see how it is
similar or different.
The homework I set myself after the first lesson was to firstly
create this blog, and to further consider my ideas. Also to maybe consider
finding more research.
